The history of Olympos is long and detailed. In the past, several civilizasions existed but over the years they where constantly under siege by pirates and earthquakes. These days only the ruins remain but are very interesting to explore. There is a narrow river that runs through the valley of Olympos and on either side you will come across many interesting ruin sights such as an amphitheatre, churches, mosaics, beautiful archways and doorsways and many tombs to name but a few.

In 1980, Olympos was discovered by backpackers and tourists who either camped or stayed in basic wooden bungalows. Olympos is a natural place and it was forbidden to construct permanent buildings such as made with brick or concrete.

Nowadays there are many pensions and small hotels dotted throughout the valley. Turkish and overseas tourists enjoy to visit Olympos for it’s stunning nature and relaxed atmosphere. There are many things to keep you busy such as live music and bars or you may just want to swing the days away in a hammock. There is something for everybody.
